Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum Gift Card

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum Gift Card

In 1888 a large international exhibitions was held in Kelvingrove Park to raise funds for a new Art Gallery and Museum. The profit raised from the exhibition enabled the Association for the Promotion of Art and Music to forge ahead with ambitious plans for a new building. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was designed by architects John W Simpson and EJ Milner Allen, winners of the open competition declared in 1892. The Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901 was held to celebrate and inaugurate this magnificent new facility.

Since its opening, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has enjoyed a significant international reputation, with an eclectic collection ranging from fantastic pieces of arms and armour, natural artefacts and outstanding British and European art. It remains the greatest achievement in the UK of the Victorian Municipal Museum Movement and is the most visited museum in the UK outside London.

The Glasgow Girls commissioned Dugald Cameron, former Director of the Glasgow School of Art to paint the exterior in 2006, prior to the opening of the newly refurbished museum.

These cards are printed to the highest standard and the building has been spot varnished which gives the impression that the building is standing closer to the foreground.

Supplied with a quality cream gift envelope this is a beautiful reminder of the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Galleries - so close to the heart of all Glaswegians.
